Unshoes Wokova Feather Sandals - A Review

My Wokovas provided the extra traction necessary to get into this tree.

I first came to Unshoes in my search for an alternative to Chacos. My Chacos had seen a variety of terrains and ten countries in ten years. I’d had them resoled twice and I even wore them with my wedding dress. As I started getting more of my parts moving as a result of yoga and and bodywork, I noticed knee pain when I wore my Chacos. They began to feel too thick, clunky, and inflexible. My first pair of Unshoes were the Uinta sandals, which feature the same strap configuration with a much thinner and more flexible sole. I love them and this summer decided to get another pair of sandals from Unshoes.

I’ve been wearing my Wokova Feather sandals from Unshoes for a few months now. Overall, I’m really enjoying them and would recommend them to anyone who has already made the transition to zero drop, minimal footwear. Read on for the details!

The Wokova Feather has an adjustable strap with a high strength elastic loop which keeps the sandals snug but not too tight. I ordered mine in the Olive Green and it matches almost everything I own. The asymmetrical style of the strap helps the shoe bridge the fashion gap between sporty and casual. I even feel comfortable wearing them with dresses.

When I first received the sandals, I was disappointed in the fit. Then I checked my email and saw a tutorial from Unshoes on how to tighten them. I was just sliding the buckle back and forth but that’s actually not the way it works. The tutorial was super helpful and once I got them tightened up, they felt great. The strap was a little too long so I trimmed it with scissors and finished the edge with a lighter.

Let me just say, they’re called the Wokova Feather for a reason. They are super lightweight! The straps are lightweight but sturdy and the sole only has a 5mm stack height. As a result, it really does feel like a “barefoot” shoe. After wearing my Wokovas exclusively for a few days, I grabbed my other pair of Unshoes sandals, the Uinta, and was really surprised in the difference. The Uinta has a 10mm stack and it felt surprisingly squishy.

So far, I’ve worn my Wokova Feather sandals to walk all over downtown Chattanooga, to ford a creek, to climb a tree, to take out the trash, and to walk in the woods. My favorite things about these sandals are the color and the thin, flexible sole which allows me to feel the terrain under my feet.

Really the only thing I don’t like about my Wokovas is that I can’t slip them on, hands-free. I like a snug fit with the strap so it’s a two-handed operation to get them on (which isn’t the worst thing ever but can be tricky when there’s a sleeping toddler on your lap).

I would recommend the Wokova Feather sandals from Unshoes to anyone who has already completed the transition to minimal footwear. I would not recommend these sandals for folks currently wearing traditional shoes. If you are interested in transitioning to minimal footwear, Katy Bowman has a great guide called Whole Body Barefoot.

Full disclosure: I received my Wokova Unshoes sandals for free as a part of the Unshoes Ambassador program in exchange for a review. I don’t receive any compensation if you choose to buy some for yourself.
